In operation since 1998, First Story exists to strengthen communities and break the cycle of multigenerational poverty by allowing underserved populations the opportunity to build wealth and find stability through homeownership. First Story collaborates with builder Hayden Homes to construct homes in their communities which are then sold through First Story’s zero-down, zero-interest 30-year loan program. This unique approach, that avoids segregated housing, provides move-in ready homes to qualified applicants who are at or below 80% area median income.

First Story knows that the journey to homeownership begins with education. First Story partners with other housing nonprofits in Central Oregon to provide homeownership education as a first step to a First Story home. We’ve witnessed how homeownership education programs help individuals transition from renter to homeowner and we’re committed to making that a reality for more families throughout Central Oregon. And to help, this holiday season First Story is seeking to provide $10,000 in scholarships to families for homeownership education courses so they can be one step closer to celebrating the holidays in a home of their own. Young families. Single parents. Veterans. Seniors. Show us anyone who wants to own a home, and we’ll show you someone whose chances of success are far higher with a practical course or two in homeownership education.

By contributing to this visionary campaign, you may be the very reason a neighbor will one day say “home sweet home.”
